Can You Still Make Money with Domain Names?

Every time I talk to people about ways to make money online, I always hear that it is too late to make money with Domain Names!

I disagree!

Yes all the one word dictionary domain names are gone!

Yes all the short, nice and easy domain names are gone!

Yes all the 3 letters and most of the 4 letters domain names are gone!

Yes it is more difficult to get the best 2 word domain names (but still possible!)

And yes it is more difficult to make money from day one because all the above domain names are long gone … but don’t give up just yet! Here is a list of 6 ways to make money online with Domain Names:

1- Unregistered 2 and 3 Words Domain Names
You need to search for domain names that consist of 2 to 3 words and make sense or have potential to be commercially developed or used. Here is a place where you can do bulk domain name search instead of one name at a time: AngelDomains.com Bulk Domain Name Registration.

2- Unregistered 4 to 7 Letter Domain Names
There are many tools to search for short domain names, one of the best tools I have used is Domain Name Pro, but I would not register just any name that is 4 to 7 letters! I would focus on acquiring domain names that fit the above length if I find .com and maybe some .net that are pronounceable, brandable, dash-free, and numbers free!

3- Dropped Domain Names
Domain names get dropped (not renewed) everyday, some domain name owners forget to renew their domain name(s), don’t want to continue for whatever reason(s), lose interest, get busy with other projects. Whatever the reason might be, the fact is that thousands of domain names are dropped daily and among them there are hidden gems. While there are hundreds of websites and services that provide dropped domain name list, the one I use is Pool.com

4- Distressed Domain Names
You can find them everywhere … but the best place is Sedo.com, lots of good domain names going cheap (and some exaggerated and overpriced ones too!) … I remember when I started in the domain name business, I used to pay $75 per year for each domain name, now you can find few good domain names on Sedo.com that were registered for about $10 and the owners are selling them for $60 to $100.

5- Premium Domain Names For Sale
The number of websites offering Premium Domain Names is growing everyday, but I find Sedo.com to have the largest selection of premium domains names that make the list, so have your pick within your budget!

6- Domain Name Development
You can register a new domain name (AngelDomains.com) or buy a pre-registered one (Sedo.com), then increase its value by building a website (it could be a few pages website), marketing it and establishing backlinks, then sell it for a reasonable profit based on its traffic and earnings potential.

In my opinion there are still tremendous opportunities and fortunes to be made online, but they require a bit of work and an investment of some sort (just like any business … depending on what you want to do and how much you want to spend).
